Disconnecting External Monitor Causes Mail App Sounds?

so, weird one...

i've searched around , can't find comes close this.

have 15" mbp connected viewsonic external monitor. worked fine, life good.

got new 15" mbp (newer model) , moved data on ssd put in new mbp.

working fine. weird thing that, when disconnect external monitor , have mail app open, mac makes repeated ding sound , repeats swooshing mail sound (when send email) on , on again. doesn't cause beach ball or mac lock up. makes sounds. repeats alot, couple of times.

when mail app closed , disconnect, doesn't make sound.

it's strange because it's hardware that's changed , never did on old mbp.

ever heard of before?

mail.app crazy sounds on wake sleep

have experienced same issue , have external monitor. here's situation: have 2009 27" imac running lion , connected matching 2010 27" monitor (mini display , usb, not thunderbolt). lot of times when wake machine sleep series of repeating dings mail.app , bunch of whooshing sounds makes when mail goes out. first time happened scared me death machine had virus , botnet sending million emails. stops after few seconds. mail.app unresponsive while going on. other detail have mail act on installed in mail.app. heck going on here?

hey found support discussion might relate this. might not monitor headphones/audio connection - issue of system buffering sounds , releasing them when headphones connected. see thread hear possible work around: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3564122?start=0&tstart=0
