VHS to Digital Conversion for Mac

i've seen several threads on topic several years old. want know products people recommend converting vhs tapes digital format on macbook pro.

these mac's specs:
mac os x 10.6.8
processor: 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo
memory: 4 gb 106 mhz ddr3

i'm hoping spend less $500 total equipment, software, cables, etc... have right vhs tapes , mac.
