Please help with e-mailing Excel for Mac files

trying send excel mac document attachments in e-mail lion mbp , coming text edit documents cannot opened me or recipient labeled excel documents on desktop. know doing wrong? excel version 2008. help.

what file extension have? sure you're attaching spreadsheet file , not alias? attach, drag excel file , drop on mail icon on dock. create new message file attached.
