copying multiple files is very slow in Lion

i try copy 3000 files, 174mb total, form folder folder imac 2009. finder tell me take 2 hours complete task!!??

did such kind of task under leopard/snow leopard , done quickly. knows how can improve efficiency of moving multiple files under osx lion? in advance.

 

maybe booting in leopard or sl , give try?
using terminal?

copying them within same hdd, drive ok?
drive full? lot of things still in thrash?

create new user in lion, , copy them through new user's account.
