i have old wd passport usb drive i'm using solely backups. every , drive disappears (despite having own power source) resulting in error message "this disk not ejected properly" when time machine tries perform backup. issue clears after clicking away error message , backs successfully, it's getting tiring seeing pop once day or so. there way suppress message or keep driving annoyingly ejecting (or whatever crap it's doing) @ least until have enough spring new drive?
it sounds it's intermittently disconnecting.
check usb cable. swap if have spare.
check usb connectors (on computer , on drive). switch usb port on computer, or different hub if you're using hub.
