My iPad with 4G Lte "Data Usage" Seems Unexpectedly High !

i purchased new ipad 4g lte (verizon) , on $20/month 1 gb (1024 mg) data plan.

i'm enjoying lot, in 2 days i've used 80 mg of data though majority of time i'm showing connected wifi (as evidenced wifi semi-circle type signal strenth icon appearing in upper left corner of screen). when i'm out of range of connected wifi signal, verizon "lte" icon replaces wifi "semi circle" signal strength indicators, bars displaying 4g lte signal strength (typically 4-5 bars). typical seemingly light usage (<1.5hours in 2 days) browsing forum , other similar websites , forums , without downloading streaming vids or music, use amount of data?

also, using ipad tomtom gps navigator app (with optional traffic disabled) use data? should ipad's cellular data feature manually turned off when running tomtom gps navigation?

web browsing activities and/or specific apps running (or running in background) might causing unexpected data usage increases?

there recommended 4g lte data usage app available itunes app store track , manage ipad usage?

in advance input.

i think best thing turn off lte when in wifi area (home example)

, also, settings>general>usage best way keep track of how data have used.
