MBP stuck in startup screen :(

hi all, i'm n00b here , little desperate help.

1st gen dual core intel mbp not go past this screen, install disk in there. can't anything, sits there, dead, long feels like.

ideas? realllllly don't want have take fix because can barely afford groceries right now, less bill fix mac.

ideas? anyone?

 

not @ mac, google 'safe mode os x'.
should able boot safe mode, , run 'fsck'...
repair os if that's damaged.

first, tho...are holding c key when u boot (until spinning icon)?
if doesn't work, try holding option.
may take screen u can select boot cd.
try running disk utility...
