iMac G3 OS reinstall

i have imac g3 333 rev d. in 2009 panther crashed in 2010 went reinstall os x on , cd drive wouldnt read cd tried eject drive jammed had destroy cd drive disc out decided parts needed bring life. did come os 8.6 when got dont have use want os x 9.2.2 installed when upgrade os x itll have classic mode. should first install 8.6 upgrade 9.2.2 os x? want best preformance , im not sure if ill upgrading original os or fresh install of 9.2.2? imac capabile of booting regular laptop ide dvd drive? need dvd decoder card play dvds on imac did b&w g3s?

on issue, had imac g3 333 mhz , had 8.6 on it. upgrade os x , had update imac firmware (download apple support) , run first keeping paper clip handy. once completed, fresh clean install of 9.2.2 after partitioning hard drive. first 8gb of space dedicated os x if want install , rest os 9. found copy of os x 10.3 on cd @ place called macpro in san jose, ca think. able me out great deal on issue.
