G5: Airport Utility not recognizing Base Station

apologies of may have seen thread on over peripherals forum. didn't replies, thought i'd try on here too. in advance suggestions.

have power pc mac g5 (os 10.5.8) airport extreme card plus external antennae, , have purchased airport extreme base station. base station connected modem same cable formerly connected modem computer. when open airport utility(5.5.3), either doesn't recognize base station @ all... or if does, gives me unspecified error message when click "continue" try configure it. have wifi icon on menu bar, assume card must installed okay. i've tried restarting computer, unplugging , replugging both modem , base station, repositioning base station (it's sitting on desk @ moment, mere 3 ft. away g5 tower under desk)...i'm @ loss.
meanwhile, ipod touch recognized base station , allowed me set network, no problem.

try connecting base station mac directly ethernet cable, , run airport utility. had same problem year or 2 ago macbook pro, , that's how fixed it.
