External HD won't mount, verify or repair... PLEASE HELP

hi everybody, has problem haven't been able find fix , after spending far time trawling net info i'm ready give up.
relative novice have learned quite bit reading through threads on forum, sharing knowledge , time, can me out.
problem wd elements 1tb "mybook" external drive.
has worked fine on year on previous desktop mac , macbook laptop (os 10.4.11) playing videos , music through wd media player that's plugged tv.
plugged new desktop mac, running lion, , came error , wouldn't mount, although wd cd icon accompanied mybook icon still shows on desktop. tried on previous desktop cpu (where had worked before) , same thing happened.
tried in laptop again , no error message appeared still won't mount. shows in disk utility when try verify or repair message saying sort of error occurred, still won't mount.
strange part (to me @ least) hard drive still works fine when it's plugged media player , tv. can still see on hard drive, can't mount on cpu can edit it's contents.
wtfudge?
