Shotgun Mic/Setup...Opinions before I plunge?

so make youtube videos (everybody says that, won't go detail), basically: i'm looking step sound quality, , start filming 1 thing in next 2 weeks. questions.

first off, here's camera have: http://goo.gl/prhqm has 3.5 mm input jack. i'm looking have shotgun mic picks dialog "movie" video, pretty job of getting gist of surroundings in background while not slapping 2 onboard mic. have few scenes camera pretty far mic should be, @ least far being mounted, i'd put on boom have. anyways,

you should use boom if camera 5" away talents.
instead of beachtek, i'd zoom h1 or 4 .... or similar tascam.
