Test results- upgrading to Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid

greetz- have friend '08 white macbook (4,1, 2.4ghz, 2gb ram, 160gb hd, snow leopard) had become super slow. turns out drive 96% full. talked them spending $150 on 500gb momentus xt hybrid (ssd/hd) drive. did swap them. once found #00 phillips, hardware swap took under 10 minutes.

i'm not synthetic benchmarks fan, , "it seems faster" drives me crazy, did simple "real world" benchmarks. general ground rules ran permissions repair on both old , new drive before test, "sudo periodic daily weekly monthly" prior benching. cleared 25gb of space on "old" drive attempt reach level of parity (e.g. old system performance wouldn't devastatingly penalized due lack of free hd space). finally, "trained" hybrid rebooting , loading apps 3 times prior testing...

anyway, here results, non-scientific sure, it's got:

absolutely "feels" different machine. $150 spent. hope data of use folks....

sorry confusing columns, first number old drive, in seconds, second hybrid, third difference, fourth % improvement

<measurements in seconds> speed improvement
old hd new hd secs. %
160gb hd 500gb hybrid

good know ... i'm going , forth between ssd , hybrid. i'd upgrade 160gb drive, cost of 256gb ssd high might go hybrid.
