Connecting to someone else's wifi and keyboard backlight

hey there. i'm away weekend staying in someone's cottage , have wifi. it's passworded, secure, wondering how safe connecting mac it? file safety etc.

also, keyboard backlight turned off, , when try higher brightness, circle line through appears not letting me brighten light. how fix this?

 

it's safe other computer connected internet.
