Firefox - Is it a lost cause?

firefox has been sole browser years, though it's had little irritating issues.because plugins , flexibility useful i've never used safari or opera or of other browsers mac (although i've tried quite few out). however, 5 months ago decided switch on chrome, see if used it. found that, in fact, got used quickly. there few little ff functions bring me and, because particularly important now, decided move ff.

here, kids (well versed in pee-wee hermanisms), big but: ff impossible use. 10.0.2 stutters on knows , drags deathly crawl if it's been open few hours. right i'm running test: brand new user profile, no plugins, downloading 2 large files (100mb & 250 mb). it's been open 25 mins , consuming 266 mb of real memory, 100 mb of private memory, , between 1.8 , 16 (!) gb of virtual memory. chrome, i'm using now, has 2 windows open 15 tabs open in each window. consuming 166 mb or real mem, 100 of private mem, , 250 of virtual mem.

there fix in sight firefox or lost cause? there many things dislike chrome (mostly it's owned google), functionality isn't 1 of them. i'd go ff, seems less , less able function.

i've never seen ff take virtual memory.
