Multi Monitor Support Screen Spanning with MacBook Pros

i curious , little confused adding multi monitor support native screen spanning macbook pros since inclusion of thunderbolt.

first, should state looking @ purchasing new macbook pro current model 4 years old.

remember reading may possible plug multiple mini display port monitors thunderbolt peripherals.

have dell 24 , might purchase because apple displays not attractive me.

can offer insight on how achieve multi monitor support screen spanning without using matrox usb device?

 

the way multi-monitor work on mbps use thunderbolt display, , right means apple's displays option. need able daisy-chain them, , dell monitor mentioned doesn't have capability (unless dell has thunderbolt monitor i'm not aware of). option right apple's thunderbolt display or usb video driver, , suck.
