i imported video canon hf m300 camcorder imovie mac. unfortunately, imovie created .mov files 5-10 times size of .mts files , cannot store these mega-sized files.
please me convert .mov .mts files. original .mts files deleted. hope solution not result in quality loss.
in advance!
.mts files using highly compressive codec called h.264 (an mpeg-4 codec) store video in relatively small file.
imovie transcodes highly compressed videos format (.mov) using codec (apple intermediate codec) better editing.
h.264 long-gop (gop = group of pictures) format, not store every frame, interpolates between keyframes (the content between keyframes calculated while playback).
apple intermediate codec editing codec, every frame stored in .mov file, smoother playback guaranteed.
if don't want edit footage, best, copy complete content of sd card folder of choice , preserve file structure (make 1 folder every card copy into).
deleted source files, , want store video , not edit it, can use imovie > share > export movie(cmd+e) command make highly compressive file out of .mov files. there plenty of guides available guide through this.
can use mpeg streamclip transcode .mov files .mp4 or .mov files using h.264 codec. if have several video files, can use mpeg streamclip's batch list:
