Found old 3GS (4.0/5.13.04) -- how do I unlock safely?

i've never needed unlock of phones until (taking trip asia next month), , after rummaging through bunch of old stuff had laying around, found old 3gs, still running 4.0, 5.13.04 baseband. (i guess i'll have live "downgrade" 4s 3gs while i've overseas...)

here's stupid question: how go safely unlocking it? (update 5.0.1 w/o updating baseband?)

i've done searching, , seems possible baseband, given "extreme" age of device, haven't been able find tutorials around walk me through step step. (i think read ultrasn0w 1.2.4 using ipad baseband, didn't think necessary 5.13.04?)

you don't need mess ipad baseband since have unlockable one.

ios 5.0.1 can either use redsn0w or pwnagetool making custom firmware.

redsn0w - windows/mac

if use redsn0w make sure make custom firmware first. after you're jailbroken ultrasn0w unlock iphone (from cydia). have add source repo666.ultrasn0w.com

or if don't need iphone on ios 5, can jailbreak going www.jailbreakme.com straight safari on iphone.
