Transferring from iphone 3GS to iphone 3G


i trying restore iphone 3g iphone 3gs backup. know...why? had iphone 3gs stolen , having downgrade brothers old 3g. possible? tried doing normal steps on itunes , came message saying had set phone new iphone upgrade version on new iphone (my 3g iphone) , transfer, 3g @ current 4.2.1 version.
 

3gs supports ios 5, 3g doesnt
