Question about backing up/restoring

hi, i've been googling 2 hours , can't find answer seems simple question: restoring ipod backup different if restore never done?

touch has been acting little, it's hard if cause normal ios 5 bugs or else. posts restore factory settings , restore last backup -- wouldn't copy whatever corruption existed onto ipod? how fixed if you're copying backed-up data ipod?

in experience restore restore really. long prior should come out on other side @ least photos , maybe apps(some of em)
