Phone is showing 3G but there is no Internet connection.

i updated fiancées iphone 4 last night 5.1 , has no 3g connection. shows has 3g 4 bars of service when goes facebook or what's app says there's no internet connection available. ideas?

 

that has happened me few times. turning phone off , on resolves it. can try turning on airplane mode second reconnects cellular network.
