Having Various Problems with MacBook


hi there everyone! first off in advance help!

heres problem: ive got late 2008 macbook (aluminum) , lately has been acting rather erratic.

os x 10.7.3 lion
2.0ghz core2duo
4gb (aftermarket) ram
320 gb (aftermarket) seagate 7200rpm hdd
13.3" model
else standard

rundown of symptoms-
-certain programs start extremely slow , run slow once start.
-computer starts extremely slow. starts in ~20-30 seconds lately doesn't finish booting 1 , half minutes.
-disc utility turns corrupted boot drive , needs repair. once repaired runs fine awhile needs repair again few days later
-finally, today, kernel panic. booted fine after.

i've been told before drive failure , there bad sectors keep getting written. think problem, dont know if cause kernel panic. can lend expertise?

**computer backed up, , i've had restore backup multiple times. gets work while, starts failing usual. btw, after kernel panic, restarted , checked disc utility corruption. drive fine. why believing there problems other drive.

have checked smart status on drive? sounds failing hard drive me.
