Apple Using OpenStreetMap Data in iPhoto for iOS

yesterday, noted apple appeared not using google maps in new iphoto app ios, although unclear new mapping data coming from. daring fireball's john gruber later clarified apple still using google maps places functionality in iphoto ios maps photo journals , slideshows coming directly apple.




openstreetmap foundation has issued blog post revealing apple using @ least of mapping data these features, although note apple using outdated mapping data , not crediting appropriately usage.

apple has relied on google maps on ios devices since launch of original iphone in 2007, has expressed interest in moving away google, due @ least in part tensions between 2 companies. toward end, apple has been working hard beef own in-house mapping expertise on past several years, acquiring several small companies including placebase, poly9 , c3 technologies.

i don't care service use, 1 place miss droid on road. native iphone maps not cut it.
