so closed mail other day normal, when go open again prompts me "welcome mail" screen , asks me create mailbox again.
don't understand happened. had several different mailboxes set up. gone? there anyway them back? can files?

- running backups? eg time machine
allow restore files
- have run permission repair & verify disk disk utility see if there errors should repaired
run repair , report back, , if not backing files, fanny down store , backup drive.
