Gmail Exchange battery life

i've used gmail via exchange on ios 5 iphone 4 while now.
recently, upgraded iphone 4s.

however, noticed now, after setup exchange battery drain increases (from 0.5% drain 1 hour idle 2-3% per hour).

setting gmail via imap (default gmail access) works better battery. however, can't live without push email, , don't see reason should without feature i've come enjoy number of years.

 

then decide what's more important , take route. doesn't seem particularly difficult me.
