Swapping 60w & 85w MagSafe Power Adapters

hello all.

have late 2008 mpb 85w power adapter. other half has 2009 macbook pro 60w adapter. these laptops 6 months apart, why difference in adapter?

bfs 60w packed working (the rabbit nibbled it) he's been using 85w. safe laptop? i've use use , then, never noticed different. safe?

many thanks.

both have 15" btw.

1) different watt adaptors based off of different tdp usage processor. example, in 2011, 13" gets 60, while 15" , 17" 85 because 15" , 17" can use 85 or more watts @ full load, while 13" closer 60w.

2) yes, thats fine. general rule can use 1 larger watt rating without having problems. sensors in magsafe regulate wattage , voltage keep safe.
however, using charger less watt rating 1 mbp came can cause slow charging , may not keep battery being drained (yes, when plugged in) if computer under load. example, if running made computer use 80w , used 60w charger, 20w still coming out of battery. consider if you're running under load , want use smaller watt rated charger.
