sftp to mini and see firewire drive

is there way sftp mac mini , see external drive? keep large folder on firewire drive, when sftp machine outside network, home directory see no way go external drive? missing obvious? alias doesn't work sftp (shows plain file). i've search come how set sftp, nothing external drive access.

you have set external drive shared volume. should able system preferences.
