Printer Problems

hi, partner , both got new imacs short time ago , we're still getting them , running. i'm new mac having used pcs previously.
anyway our problem, software came our printer, canon i9100 not work lion. didn't seem problem when printer connected each of our macs asked if wanted install drivers , said yes.
however, when try print don't same options used get. used 4 tabs when told print "main, page set up, profiles , maintenance". 1 simplified version.
have lost options such print greyscale, important both have photography hobby.
advice welcome. i'm not technology though need things explaining @ basic level - sorry!
