Powermac G5 won't boot past blue screen, does boot from second HDD... help!

i have older powermac g5 running osx 10.5.8 2 volumes. volume 1 not boot past blue screen. can boot second volume making start-up disk, unable access files (which desperately need!) volume 1. "see" them there, applications not open--some try, crash.

have run disk utilities, reset pram, , ton of other things , check out okay, yet still stuck @ blue screen when try boot normal.

not have install disks, , optical dvd drive stopped reading disks few months ago. (yay)

appreciated... please!!!

 

could either dying hard drive or dodgy hard drive cables. 1 of bays on g5 deemed useless @ moment hard drive cables knackered.
