iPad bad sound quality and week loudness

i've bought ipad 1st generation 64 gb. i'd connect amplifier sound quiet , bad quality. what's wrong ?
i've tried iphone 4 , ok

check volume (loudness) settings on ipad , apps you're using and, importantly, try different cable.
