How to I 'Keep' the icon when I format a disk

i have been given new hdd, need format.

want keep icon files, associated disk (they proprietry , same drive!).

how icon files prior formatting?

 

you open info window, select icon on top left, press cmd+c, go preview, press cmd+n , save image in png format.

how set icon application, file or folder & restore original icon​
