About to make the switch and have some questions.

hello all,
i'm lifelong windows user , i'm make switch mac. looking @ getting 13" macbook pro. can't decide on buying or waiting out few months discussion. main questions relate bootcamping mac vs running windows in vm setting. bootcamp popular/functional way partition drive? can osx see data on windows 7 partition , vise versa? have more experience working virtual machines question there 1 of performance. need windows 7 run visual studio , other misc. programming / system admin programs , light gaming on side. advice forward being helpful myself in future

note on more of reasons jumping mac. have been noticing more , more macs show in school/professional settings , starting become issue friends work departments. not difficult work lot of them don't want take time learn how make work. figure knowing how work them shouldn't bad of investment ... plus kinda sleek ... plus doesn't hurt lot of work place processes moving web based environment.
