10.7.3 Lion - no "new" mail alert

i have looked everywhere solution this. thought had found solution (see below), not have "mail" folder in library...help!

here exact steps had me follow location:

1. click finder in dock
2. press , hold option key
3. select go-->library menu bar (still holding down option key)
4. double click mail folder
5. double click v2 folder
6. double click maildata folder

should see "envelope index" files there.
3. move "envelope index" files desktop - me there of them.
4. restart mail - received message mail had import files, hit continue , when done (took 5 minutes process 6 accounts have) working right.

in finder, go preferences , pick show hidden files. go home folder. 1 folder above downloads , documents folders. there should able see library folder , find mail folder looking there.

if like, can turn show hidden files on when finished.
