Free space shred does not remove all files

hi all

have run mac 'erase free space' option using 7-pass option on main hard drive. when run applexsoft recovery software, can still find files have expected removed. mean mac storing files trash not classed free space or not being erased 'erase free space' option?

running mac os 10.6.8.
