Backup System Advice

got couple questions regarding backup options/methods.

have 3 macs, mbp , 2 imacs, running lion. have 1 tb of internal storage (the mbp has 2x500gb using optibay). have linux server 3tb of raid storage, backup files 2 externals not software, prefs , whatnot.

use 1.5 tb time machine drive, , 1 tb carbon copy clone drive each newest imac (haven't found prices on drives yet, i'd same system above).

fine right since have drives big enough , can drives 3tb, i'm looking towards future. laptop , first imac getting full, may storage upgrades.

question 1: heres hypothetical situation, mac 3tb drive. carbon copy easy enough. time machine wouldn't work since there aren't drives bigger 3tb. having drive thats 1.5 times bigger source drive. guys use them up? know there thing drobos, start @ $400 , thats without including drives. firewire 800 preferable, im open other methods network storage via gigabit ethernet. can use usb. bonus points if can use second backup macs own, , more bonus points if can use better backup linux server. guys do?

question 1.5: linux server filling up, i'm gonna upgrade too. it'll past size of largest single drives out there. suggestions? answer question 1 might cover already.

question 2: there replacement winclone on lion? last time tried on laptop, wouldn't complete backup.

 

synology make great nas solutions, , choose size want / need. using 3tb tc 3 macs, archive stuff off external hdd's works fine, , can't see me having change tc anytime soon.
