Traveling to Austria

so have conference in austria @ end of may. have never been out of before. advisor thinks should totally stay after conference week or , explore

few questions
- things should see?
- credit cards work? american money? fees?
- assume need plugs electronic stuff right?
- wifi work same here in us?
- how can travel/stay on budget? don't fancy spending near 100 night hotel have here
- general advice? there train pass or anything?
- drivers license recognized if want rent car? or cost prohibitive? or cars needed there on here?

going alone it's bit intimidating. sorry maybe naive questions have no idea expect

austria lovely, rather expensive, factor planning.

if classical music lover,- or music lover - in heaven there superb concerts in stunning settings (i.e. 17-18th century palaces) daily, or nightly; classical music tastes catered for, opera, operetta, easy listening classical, jazz available.

likewise, if history, vienna wonderful place explore, on foot, (again, palaces , parks, churches , streets terrific). evident old imperial capital, in shrunken country empire dissolved around century ago.

rural austria - in western part of country- has stunning mountain scenery, worth look, if hiking, or mountain walks.

plusses - coffee , cakes fantastic. restaurants have 2 menus - 1 food , second, equally large 1 desserts/cakes.

minuses, expensive, high standard of living, bear in mind.

bring - or buy - adaptors; european standard different of us, (and different also, of uk). you'll them in electrical outlets, or airports.

credit cards work; 1 of wealthiest countries in world. however, i'm not sure cards used more; don't use amex - use visa , mastercard, both of used quite in europe.

wifi should no problem @ - although decade since last in vienna. public transport excellent, reliable , safe.

i've never hired car in austria, when did in italy, passport, driver's licence , obviously, credit card necessary. car hire can quite expensive, makes sense hire smallish car when touring or travelling around in european countries.

you'll have great time; enjoy trip.
