Mac OS 9 won't shut down... semi-urgent?

sorry of threads on problems computer... kinda has lot of them.

anyways, on clamshell ibook, not shut down, no matter do. can run application while in process, , it's if nothing ever happened. (i tried opening applications until waiting overnight quit.) now, it's been running problem-free except this. bad hard drive or something? or should clean install of os 9? have go on trip soon, , battery not hold charge, can't carry around @ until fix it. left overnight , still remained powered on. help? thanks!

do have network manager open can't find wireless network? or type of manager helping set os or set internet connection? if so, close those, os 9 won't shut down if have open waiting on proceed. i've had before, , once closed apps (network manager in case) os 9 shut down normally.
