Help please - new to jailbreaking, am unable to unlock my phone

ok, updated 3gs 5.1. worst thing have done! im new jailbreaking obv! have baseband 05.16.05 , im unable unlock phone! prob started out desirable bb , ios!! manufacture week 52, mean cant unlock phone until new software ready version? since cant use ipad bb (not sure id want anyway)
