External Firewire 800 drive and Thunderbolt display

hi all,

purchased refurbished thunderbolt display , ever since ive had issues when seagate firewire drive plugged display.

system gets extremely sluggish. timemachine not complete backup. throws error (if comes again make sure post exact error, didnt write down)

ive had issue of various native apple apps freezing. example system preferences freezes finder.

strange part when drive plugged directly 2011 macbook pro system runs smooth. moment unplug drive display system regains stability instantly.

i'm running lion 10.7.2 updates installed.

gives? should demand refund , try display or configuration issue.

 

that's strange. i've got seagate goflex desk hooked thunderbolt display using firewire 800 no problems. have firewire device can try out?
