How Can You Make Your Mac Faster?!

i got imac, purchased in 2010, , have noticed it's performance has been getting slower time goes on.

few months ago increased memory 4 gb 12 gb, doesn't seem improving.

when downloading movie trailers apple, used super fast, takes longer, youtube videos take longer load , video doesn't show audio does. spinning beach ball every once in while, , it's annoying.

currently, processor is: 3.06 ghz intel core 2 duo, , memory is: 12 gb 1067 mhz ddr3.

have increase processor make faster? if that's case, isn't hard diy?

 

since worked before, , doesn't seem work now, there no need hardware upgrade, there more solution in solving problems via troubleshooting it.

also open activity monitor , select all processes , either sort real mem show process(es) using ram or/and sort cpu show processes slowing down mac.

second: happen in another, temporarily created, user account?
third: has changed internet connection wise since worked well?

btw, have no problems watching 1080p content on youtube or 1080p trailers apple on 2007 imac c2d 2 ghz cpu or 2009 mbp c2s 2.8 ghz cpu.
