Ad auto-downloads! Possible trojan??

hey guys, , reading post. suggestions appreciated! pretty long post, appreciate if could
acually finish =)

so, on normal website other day, , 1 of annoying ads (the ones play video of advertisement) started going.
in past, when on site, 1 of these video ads started going, , muted (like youtube video) or paused it. little did
know, ad of different nature. particular ad continuously spins (as if loading/buffering video), , there text saying
effect of "you need download plugin play video". in summary, 1 of ads should never click because it
obvious trying trick clicking it! me, thinking 1 of legitimate video vides, clicked pause on it. new blank tab
opened up, , download automatically began. file name realplayer.exe. when asked if wanted open file internet, clicked cancel, put in trash bin, , cleared trash.

fortunately, able replicate advertisement. on other mac (that didn't store personal data), visited same website again, , kept refreshing until presented same ad (of "supposedly" buffering video). time, upon clicking on , automatically downloading the
file, clicked open. pulled textedit document of script (i'm assuming). textedit document read "this program cannont run in dos mode.", , followed long chain of random symbols , other stuff (going on literally forever!).

after research of realplayer.exe, learned apparently real player known spyware/malware embedded in programs.

i, myself, novice (at most) of how programs, files, , downloads work. know, have posted above. there possible whatsoever downloaded file have negative effect on personal computer? i'd heard rumors how trojans/keyloggers/other things can on someone's computer, , user not know of presence? far know (which isn't much, believe me!), macs can't run .exe files, right? correct assume download intended windows computers? in general, of these ads automatically download files malicious in nature? or overreacting?

interesting me was, if remember, first time came across ad on personal desktop, file realplayer.exe downloaded on personal computer. when tried replicate on other, non-personal mac, file downloaded 1 called ultimate_media_player_2.exe. however, when copied link address , opened in tab, , clicked on link, original file (realplayer.exe) began downloading. find interesting because it's 2 files in 1 ad? (maybe i'm interpreting wrong!)

don't know if helps, when copy link, link begins (adserving.cpxinteractive.com) , long url follows .com part.

know long post, , if @ part, more information needed, let me know , elaborate. has been buggin me last 2 days, , want know!!

in advance!

an .exe file windows app , cannot run on or affect mac in way, other taking disk space.

macs not immune malware, no true viruses exist in wild can run on mac os x, , there never have been since released 10 years ago. cannot infect mac visiting website, unzipping file, opening email attachment or joining network. malware in wild can affect mac os x handful of trojans, cannot infect mac unless actively install them, , can avoided basic education, common sense , care in software install. also, mac os x snow leopard , lion have anti-malware protection built in, further reducing need 3rd party antivirus apps.
