when next big display breakthrough happen mobile devices in ipad category? put way, how long retina ipad best screen technology @ market?

ask because i'm curious want future-proof devices long possible, , aren't concerned ever-advancing 'spec-wars', processors, gpu/cpu clock speeds, , design.
