hey folks,
got star micronics tsp600 thermal pos printer (tsp613 tear bar type serial interface) trying toget work on mac via usb serial adapter (pl2303 chip)
having done research on topic many people said buy usb model , stop trying serial printer run. didn't approach, tried it.
got point printer spits out unreadable gibberish (heureka!!!) don't know why - , might need advice cups/pos guru or has achieved such printer run...
here's did far:
- installed open source pl2303 usb-to-serial driver recommended here (seems work, because shows in /dev/tty*)
- since star micronics doesn't provide mac driver serial tsp600, usb, went on find cups ppd file printer - found in linux driver package same model (tsp613.ppd.gz)
- installed serial printing enabler here
- went local cups settings page http://localhost:631 "administration" > "add printer"
- set name , description > next picked "pl2303-xxxxxx" (usb-to-serial-adapter) device
- set 9600 bps, 8 bits, no parity, dtr handshake settings (same printer)
- chose downloaded tsp613.ppd driver file printer
- finish
printer showed in cups , in macos x printer settings "tsp613 tear bar" , tested printing simple text file, nothing @ happened...so went cups settings , changed serial handshake "none" , tried printing again - , worked!!!!!!
err, tsp600 spit out inches , inches of paper filled lines of ascii gibberish, @ least mac speaks printer now!
need hint continue! serial settings issue or cups driver issue? more ideas highly appreciated!
in advance,
flux
i think you're close!
take @ text version (ie, not .gz) of ppd. in find reference components used driver. suspect missing filter ppd specifies. or conversely, different mac version driver isn't referred in linux ppd.
example 1 of epsons:
*cupsfilter: "application/vnd.cups-raster 100 rastertogutenprint.5.2"
*cupsfilter: "application/vnd.cups-command 33 commandtoepson"
hope helps.
