i have 42gb+ of pictures , videos in date-named subfolders inside ~/pictures ./2011_12_31_description. started using iphoto '11 , started importing them single iphoto library. sources of pictures , videos come sony digital camera , iphone 4s. because of total size of pictures, in iphoto not choose make copy of imported pictures library file.
digital camera pictures put them nicely in such folder structure. when comes increasing usage of 4s pictures , videos, don't know how transfer them existing folder structure have. import phone pictures iphoto, copy them off phone, have export them new date-named folder. then, in order keep iphoto library contain references of pictures , not physical copies, have remove last imported pictures within iphoto, import newly created date-named folder iphoto again. seems overly cumbersome.
doing wrong? such as, should have let iphoto library file keep separate copy of pictures on import, , let grow 42gb+ when done? afraid things slow halt when said , done.
should start using multiple library files? although mitigate eventual slowness problem due library size, not workflow problem having pictures coming camera , iphone. can imagine lose facial recognition knowledge per library file.
should have applescript'ed workflow?
should have used more sophisticated mac photo management software?
appreciate help. thank you.
i think you're not using "copy items iphoto library" feature, hence photos stay in own folders. problem being iphoto copies photos iphone, have bunch of work-around wind same structure.
if that's so, i'd use image capture copy photos iphone ~/pictures folder. import them per usual. if assumptions correct save few steps.
