Help! Computer loses space when uploading photos to ipad

can me out?

last night when uploading pictures ipad (about 15gb worth), noticed computer's free hard drive space decreasing consistently number of pictures synced. opened finder , literally watched available space drop 10 gb 200 mb, @ point computer freaked out , popped these error messages needing clear space , delete files. picture transfer stopped @ point.

has experienced similar or knows why happening? thinking maybe itunes/iphoto copies files temporary cache space in order upload them bug or error causing files remain duplicates instead of being deleted afterwards. shouldn't ram issue, not hard drive issue? , i've never experienced kind of problem iphone.

able fix rebooting , reuploading remaining pics (and rebooting again), fix problem don't have every single time upload pictures. also, when rebooted final time, noticed still lost ~2gb of usable space.
