hello,
nvidia geforce 8800 gt in 2008 mac pro 3,1 cut out. or more fan no longer fans, , activity uses gpu crash computer within seconds. spent 2 hours trying figure out graphics card replacement options , overwhelmed.
not have been confused graphics cards , better, figuring out ones work computer has head spinning. video cards sold on apple's website claim require 2009 or 2010 model, though people same computer mine have claimed run 5770 no problems...
anyways, appreciate advice! planning on keeping computer long time come, i'd go best upgrade possible (excluding pricey - $1200 1 on apple's store).
also, if it's relevant, running 10.6.8, planning on upgrading lion anyway - expedite upgrade if necessary.

my 8800gt went out (what crappy gpu!) on 08, 8core
got 5770 , works fine. had dust out pcie port. works fine now. think should go 5770...down line if need more horsepower should able find newer version of card. more expensive card not worth @ time because quite old.
