Video Output from original iPad

it suggested should able use apple tv output video of ipad display, , ipad-apple tv connection wireless.

application classroom instructor using ipad free-hand draw basic line drawings (think chemistry, molecule structures), , have whatever appearing on ipad appear on projection screen via ipad--apple tv--projector setup.

concern being true functionality of original ipad.

 

i thought airplay display mirroring ipad 2 only.
