Two rather unique problems have arisen since Lion install

1. option-key reveal hidden menus e.g. items on menu bar no longer work. in fact, cannot use option key customise smart folders (to produce none category). created account , works there. why won't work admin account? suggestions?

2. had geektool on 10.6 since installed lion script hasn't been working me. uninstalled , downloaded new version mac store, no luck. decided recreate script using original instructions got permission denied when put in pathway of file instructed. perhaps reason why tool hasn't been working. appreciate if on lion follow steps in link , let me know whether come across same issue.
