Numbers: Running totals & categories?

i attempting run checkbook register in numbers, using checkbook register template.

1. how keep balance going? in, have exceeded number of lines shown in template, , totals (balance) not automatically add/subtract. how keep going?

2. how can keep track of spending categories? budget amount each month. well, let's spent $10 on clothing @ store. enter clothing in category. now, how can make keep running total of has been spent in category?

got rid of our iphones, no longer use pocketmoney track our spending. so, best alternative until ipod touch.
