Lens suggestions for Africa trip

hi,

i'm looking lens suggestions trip i'm taking africa in late may. typically don't shoot wildlife , normal usage landscape scenes , normal vacation type stuff. need go versatility rather wildlife or action specific.

need stay (somewhat) reasonable in price i'm planning on adding new body, nikon d7000, while wife takes our current d40 , kit lens. thankfully, going established nature photographer who'll have selection of lenses, there opportunity trade-out, can't rely on time.

initial choice is:

nikon 18-200mm vr ii

considered nikon 70-300mm vr, i'm not sure. seems 18-200 has more versatility me.

i'm complete amateur , no aspirations otherwise. want solid kit last years (i tend hang onto things long time). don't ever plan on having more 2 or 3 lenses, maximum versatility rather outright specialty key.

opinions?

for trip you're describing, 70-300vr bette 18-200.

suggest 18-55vr complement 70-300vr.
