imessages stopped for some friends, not for others

both girlfriend , immediate family members people use imessage with, daily.

today, girlfriend's iphone4s stopped receiving imessages. neither of can send imessages each other. restarted messages app, restarted phone, jiggled off/on wifi, turned "send sms" off, yet no avail - our texts still sending sms today instead of imessages past couple months. can still facetime her. neither email nor phone number gets imessages, green sms texts.

try deleting whole message thread on side. turn phone off , on again.
